Lighting can be both iconic and iconographic.
There are lamps and chandeliers everyone knows and recognizes—sometimes even just by name. They have become symbols of our visual culture, silent protagonists of scenes that have entered the collective imagination.

When a Lamp Becomes a Legend

Above all stands the Arco Lamp by Flos, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962.
With its elegant line and marble base, it has become an icon of modern design—so much so that it appears in numerous films to highlight contemporary, stylish interiors. One of its most famous appearances? Tony Stark’s apartment, a.k.a. Iron Man’s, where high-tech aesthetics meet Italian design.

Another star is the Nesso Lamp by Artemide, with its mushroom shape and bold orange hue. It has appeared on several film sets—from "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979) to Paolo Sorrentino’s "The Great Beauty".
Each time, it helps create the atmosphere of an era, tells us something about the characters’ status, and literally brings light to the story.

Objects used on film sets are not mere decorative items; they are storytelling tools. They help define a time period, a social context, and a way of life.
Such is the case of the Italian-American TV series "My Brilliant Friend", based on Elena Ferrante’s novels, which portray the intense bond between Lenu and Lila from post-war Italy to the 2000s.
Because the story spans six decades of Italian history, the reconstruction of interiors is essential to conveying the authenticity of the time.
In one of its most iconic scenes—the wedding dress fitting—appears the 269/LP Table Lamp from Possoni Illuminazione’s Valentina Collection: a table lamp with 24k gold finish, adorned with crystal and organza lampshades.
At the center of the room, the lamp illuminates both the dress and the moment, becoming a part of the narrative itself.

The Elegance of Power: Possoni in “Suburra”

Possoni Illuminazione creations also appear in another acclaimed Italian film: "Suburra" (2015), directed by Stefano Sollima.
Set in Rome, the film delves into the ties between politics, crime, and the Church—a web of power and decadence.
To recreate the elegance of Rome’s high society homes and the refined environments of the city’s clergy, several Possoni models were chosen:

  • 269/P Floor Lamp – Valentina Collection
Simple lines in brass and clear crystal, 24k gold finish, and pleated organza shades. Featured in the home of Hon. Filippo Malgradi.
  • 888/P3-SH/P Floor Lamps – Windsor Collection
Classic and versatile, ideal for both refined interiors and large spaces such as staircases or halls. In Suburra, they appear with French gold finish, Schöler plates, and organza shades.
  • 4500/P Floor Lamp – Clarissa Collection
Luxurious, with worked brass parts and hand-blown, hand-cut clear crystal cups.
  • 7015/L Table Lamp – Birky Collection
  • French gold finish, red decorated crystal, and pleated organza lampshade. They can be seen in the home of Manfredi, head of the Anacleti clan.

When light takes center stage

Cinema and television have the power to turn objects into symbols. A chandelier or a lamp is not just a furnishing item—it is a vehicle of emotion, identity, and visual memory.
And when the light bears the signature of Possoni Illuminazione, it also becomes an ambassador of Italian craftsmanship and elegance: the kind that illuminates stories, homes, and the dreams of those who love beauty.
